The strength of the KUANI manufacturing capability can be demonstrated from the following:
 
1.Research and Development
HEALTH AND SAFETY
It is our principle that operator Health and Safety is our first priority when we are developing and improving new and existing products. In recent years the risk of hand arm vibration syndrome (HAVS) has become an important issue. KUANI therefore have been dedicated in the development of lighter, more highly efficient portable power tools with minimum vibration levels.
MARKET-ORIENTED
KUANI products are designed to satisfy diverse market demands with a consideration to practicality. KUANI always work closely with our customers to gain knowledge of the current market and understand their needs.
PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERING
KUANI R &D department consists of approximately 20 professional engineers that are specialized in the following three areas:
Industrial Design
Pneumatic and Hydraulic Machinery
Mechatronics
PROTOTYPE AND MOLD
KUANI have both the ability and the facilities for making prototypes and molds in house. With this facility any mass production problems that are likely to occur can be eradicated at the outset. The solution will then be set as our Standard Operating Process (SOP) of manufacturing. All the experience and knowledge gained during this process are the building blocks that are used to build the KUANI brand into a market leader.
DEVELOPMENT OF TEST INSTRUMENTS AND EQUIPMENT
The KUANI R&D department has the capability of undertaking the design, development and manufacture of all types of equipment used for testing the performance and life of our products.
 
2.Strict Quality Control over Materials
HIGH RATIO OF SELF-MANUFACTURED CONTENT
KUANI employ in the region of around 300 highly trained experienced personnel and between them they operate over 200 KUANI owned CNC machines that are currently producing over 80% of all parts used in all KUANI products within our portfolio. KUANI can guarantee that the critically important precision made parts are within this 80%. This gives KUANI the ability to control and maintain the quality of all products.
VERTICAL INTEGRATION AND SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT
KUANI maintain control of the quality of all the materials used by uniting our upper supply chain and operating a strict supplier management and assessment.
COMPLIANCE WITH THE REGULATION OF REACH AND ROHS
KUANI guarantee that all parts and materials processed for manufacturing comply with the regulation of both REACH and RoHS.
 
3.Factories and Manufacturing Equipment Overview

All KUANI Factories are all located in Tai-Chung City within the precision machining center of Taiwan. We can then all benefit from the commercially economical advantage of agglomeration brought together by industrial cluster. KUANI can guarantee that all our products are made in Taiwan.

KUANI currently have 3 factories:

YOU-SHI FACTORY
Land Area: 21,636 sqm
Floor Space: 14214 sqm
Manufacturing workforce: 200 to 250
Features
This factory is used for the KUANI Precision Machining Department utilizing over 200 CNC machines for all types of lathe, milling, grinding or other special requirements. 40% of all the CNC machines are made in Taiwan with about 60% being imported from Japan, USA, and Europe.
MIAO-LI FACTORY
Land Area: 6000 sqm
Floor Space: 3970 sqm
Manufacturing workforce: 6 to 10
Features
This factory is where KUANI have set up the Flexible Manufacturing System (FMS) which is a very efficient automated engineering system. The whole FMS can operate for 24 hrs per day 7 days per week and requires only a few staff. The FMS provides KUANI with the ability to undertake production of small orders without affecting the normal main production and quality capability.
YOU-SAN FACTORY
Land Area: 7,200 sqm
Floor Space: 15,207 sqm
Manufacturing workforce: 100 to 150

This is where the KUANI tool assembly line and Investment Casting & Processing Division are located.
 
4.Production Management

KUANI have been applying a scientific and statistical method of improving production. The aim of this is to achieve Total Productive Maintenance (TPM).

To complement (TPM) KUANI have, since 2006 adopted the Toyota Production System (TPS). For example, we use the Toyota 5 S Workplace Organization Method, to plan, settle, organize, and maintain the whole plant. We also replaced the Progressive Assembly Line with the Toyota U-Shaped Assembly Line. We also set up a detailed and graphically specified Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for both the instruction of and the standard of quality checks undertaken by the operators at each work station.

Empirical statistics have proved that since the introduction of the Toyota Production System KUANI have achieved the following reduction in:

Working space
Work-in-process inventory
Workforce movement
  • Staff (still maintaining the same output)
  • Idle time
  • Materials wasted

With Increased:
Machine utilization
Inventory turnover

All this has resulted in an improved more efficient and safer working environment. There was a significant improvement to production and in January 2009 and the quality management system at KUANI was awarded a certificate in accordance with ISO 9001:2008 for the “Design and Sales of Hand & Power Tools”.

5.Material Requirement Planning
KUANI have two main principles for our inventory policy:

ZERO STOCK FOR FINISHED GOODS
KUANI only produce goods to order and due to the highly customized operation we do not stock any finished goods. As soon as we receive an order, we will then start the production of it. To keep lead time to a minimum KUANI offer the option of holding stock of customized parts for our customers.
STOCK MANAGEMENT OF PARTS AND COMPONENTS
KUANI use the demand pull system, this system is where processes are based on customer demand. The concept is that each process is manufacturing each component in line with another department to build a final part to the exact expectation of delivery from the customer. KUANI will estimate and prepare the quantities of parts required for the following 6 months. This enables us to closely cooperate with our suppliers and reduce lead time.
